Design brief
The purpose of PLANeT GREEN is for students to investigate, plan and create a vegetable garden that adheres to a number of principles. Through their research, activities and application of the design process, it is expected that that students will gain an appreciation of the need for a garden to:
1. Be cost effective in relation to
a. Purchasing of materials and equipment
b. Water usage over the lifetime of the garden
c. Nutrient replenishment
2. To able to be created and maintained in a time efficient manner.
3. Use recycled or sustainable materials wherever possible, minimising any environmental impacts
4. Be reproducible in all backyard types, particularly concentrating on smaller backyards where space is an issue
The garden design ought to be able to be reproduced by average Australians who want to create a sustainable garden, but have little resources in terms of money, space and time.
As well as reflecting sustainable practices, the garden’s aesthetic qualities should be taken into consideration.
